Rocks and Robots Summer Camp Sessions at Achieve Charter Academy

Location and Other Information

These camp sessions are held at Achieve Charter Academy. There is a limit to the number of students per class. Once you have registered and paid we will send you an information packet with a tentative schedule, things to bring to camp, camper information sheet and health forms.

Cost: $299 FOR HALF DAY 9 to Noon and only $99 additional for WHOLE Day 9 to 3

You can choose to have your child attend camp for morning only (9 to Noon) or for the whole day (9 to 3).

The age ranges that are listed for the classes can be adjusted. We individualize all of our classes to fit each child, therefore no child will be ahead or behind if they miss a day or only attend for a half-day. Two instructors must be at the site during our summer camp, which means that the class will have two instructors that can spread out and teach to a class with a wide age range. Each camper will have the content of the course customized to fit his or her individual learning style.

Let us know if you have any questions about camp.

WeDo Robotics and LEGO Physics: Ages 6-10

During this week of camp we are going to offer something new. We will be combining the two courses: WeDo Robotics and LEGO Physics and give campers a chance to enjoy both. During this week campers will also participate in some outdoor group activities and games daily.

WeDo Robotics

This course introduces young campers to robotics. They develop higher level thinking skills by programming LEGO models to move and interact. Each activity starts with a short animated story that has a problem to solve. Using language and literacy skills, campers follow the easy to use LEGO software program that guides them through a set of onscreen building instructions. After the model robot is built and connected to the computer, campers are shown how to write simple programs by dragging and placing pictures on the computer screen. Campers then run the program and watch as the motors and sensors on their model animate their creations. We then challenge campers to extend their programs and models using their own ideas or other programming techniques taught.

LEGO Physics

LEGO and physics? If you like LEGO and want to know how to build creations that help you understand forces and motion, simple machines, measurement, energy, magnetism and more? Then this class is for you. Using Science and Technology LEGO Engineering kits, students will work in pairs and each student will assemble part of a model. Students will then join their parts to complete the building project. Of course we will not be building from just the provided set of instructions, students will experiment with their own designs to complete challenges that incorporate physical science principals. Extra LEGO pieces may be brought in as an addition to the kits to encourage creating new designs. LEGO = fun = learning!

During this week campers will also participate in some outdoor group activities and games daily.
