Rocks and Robots

Opportunities for Educators

At Rocks and Robots we have over ten years of experience teaching robotics and group dynamic skills to a variety of ages. Here are three ways we can bring that experience to your school.

1) A Train the Trainers Workshop.

2) A School Assembly, and

3) An Equipment Lending Library

Train the Trainer workshop:

Rocks and Robots LLC will present a two-day robotics workshop for up to 12 teachers. Robots are magically engaging for students with many different learning styles. This workshop teaches everything needed to bring these amazing teaching aids into the classroom. All that is needed is a desire to bring robotics and computer programming to their schools or academies. In addition, teachers with experience will be offered "masters" level training to enhance their skills.

We believe that teachers are one of our most valuable resources and they have limited time for curriculum development. This intensive workshop will give teachers all they need to know to add robotics to their math and science programs.

We will provide computers, robots and parts kits along with any necessary example rubrics, curriculum benchmarks that fit grades 3-8. At the end of this intensive workshop teachers will be confident in their ability to integrate these amazing teaching tools into a constructivist classroom to meet their specific goals

$1200.00/day

School Assembly:

Once again we come to you prepared with robots and laptops. Unlike a traditional assembly where students are passive, our school assembly gives every student a hands on experience exploring robotics and programming. At the same time, teachers get a choice to either take part or use this time as a planning period.

Each student gets a one full class period to participate. We bring students through our program one full class at a time going through each grade level. This assembly lasts 1-2 days depending on the size of the school.

This assemble creates a tremendous buzz throughout the school amongst students and teachers. It is a great way to build excitement for a school robotics team or afterschool program. ( In SE Mich. We can also run the afterschool program for you.

$800/day (price assumes up to 8 one hour classes with up to 24 students each)

Equipment Lending Library

LEGO Mindstorms Robotics kits are a wonderful teaching and learning tool. However, Robot kits are expensive and in order to teach a productive course it is far better to have one kit for every two students. On the other hand most of the school year the kits sit on the shelf collecting dust.

Therefore, we propose a cooperative agreement amongst several schools so that this equipment can be shared and learning will be exciting and efficient. In this system each school will obtain 4 kits. All kits will rotate from one school to another. Each school will still have their own 4 kits available part of the year for robotics team competitions.

When lending out equipment, especially LEGO, small parts tend to get lost or damaged. We have developed a system and are offering a refurbishing service at little cost. Complete kits retain their value.

The cost of this service is $20/kit plus replacement parts and shipping.
