What We Do

"The Rocks"

Success in the modern world requires a high level of interactivity. How do you prepare a child to work well in groups? Our outdoor activities draw campers into basic teamwork exercises where they learn firsthand that “together we are more effective than any one of us alone”. The challenges are designed with more than one solution, and students are encouraged to think of success in terms of the whole group when solving them. This naturally leads to drawing on the different strengths of each individual.

"Rocks" acivities include a variety of outdoor skills like:

  • Team challenges, problem solving
  • Rock climbing, learning knot tying, belaying, and climbing technique
  • Orienteering, map and compass and GPS
  • High ropes course
  • Starting a fire with a bow drill

"The Robots"

These days children are quickly immersed in a fascinating world of technology. Robotics combines the latest developments in technology with the appeal of animation. Learning to use this technology in a fun way gives a different sense of mastery than outdoor activities, but one that's just as important. We start with easier challenges, and progress as students are encouraged by their accomplishments. Success grows naturally from adjusting and working through frustration.

"Robots" activities include the following:

  • Sumo Battle Bots - Making and programming Robots that try to push each other out of a ring
  • Bot Build Fest - Build Spike the scorpian, the RoboArm, and even Alpha Rex, the humanoid which can walk on two legs.
  • Mayan Adventure - Make and program robots to solve the mysteries of a Mayan pyramid.
  • Flutterbot- Learn how to read schematics, use prototype breadboards and program in the powerful language of C.
  • Electric Curcuits - Discover the components of electric circuits through building and hands on exploration.
  • LEGO Engineering - Building models that demonstrate physical science and technology concepts.
  • Mad About Motors - Take apart CD and DVD drives to build a working claw and electric claw.
  • Structures - Building bridges, towers and super slingers out of everyday objects.
  • Vehicles - Build a car and/or a boat that is powered only by a mouse trap.
