Junkbox Challenge

Junkbox Challenge

Do you like to build? Want to build your own bridges, towers and super slingers. In this course, students will be given materials and a challenge to build an object such as a bridge or a siege engine. Bend the rules but don't break them! Each challenge has guidelines, for example, build a bridge that is able to span the entire width of a canyon (the space between two tables) and it may be attached to the sides of the canyon but must have a roadbed and enough room to allow the vehicle to move freely. Children are natural builders and are guided to discover engineering principles like compression and tension for themselves. They are also taught basic building skills and teamwork as they work together to accomplish a given challenge. Other challenges include Super Slinger where campers create a device that will launch a ball at a target for points, Super Structures where campers create a structure that is capable of holding a large amount of pennies and other building challenges. During a weekend workshop we will have time for one or two challenges. During Summer camp we will have have even more challenges!
