Mad about Motors
In “Mad about Motors” campers take apart CD and DVD players to build a working claw and an electric car. While safely using hand tools campers use “finesse not force” to disassemble computer CD and DVD drives. Within these drives there are electric motors that move the read/write head of the drive and that open and close the drawer that holds the disk. Campers are taught what they are looking for and how to extract it in working order. Using the read/write mechanism the campers make an electric robot claw. Campers will also build an electric car using the CD drawer motor and mechanism and CD's as wheels.
Ropes
Our half day programs are divided into A.M. and P.M. sessions. All campers are challenged to work as a group to accomplish tasks. A.M. campers do a satellite assisted scavenger hunt with GPS receivers and get a chance to climb up on a high ropes course and zip down a wire line called a zip line. Campers will climb up on the high ropes course to enter the zip line. They will not do the other high ropes elements. This is a great option for campers that are not interested in rock climbing. We call this "Ropes."
